— November 15th – at Iowa State Colorado 44, Iowa State 10 — Colorado extended its road winning streak against Iowa State to ten games in routing the Cyclones in Ames, 44-10. — August 30th – at Denver Colorado 42, No. 23 Colorado State 35 — Sophomore quarterback Joel Klatt was the unlikely hero in leading Colorado to a 42-35 win over its in-state rival, Colorado State, in the 2003 season-opener for both teams. Prior to completing 21-of-34 passes for 402 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions against the Rams, Klatt’s career numbers were as follows: a total of three passes, completing none. Yet before 76,219 rain-soaked fans at Invesco Field and a national television audience on ESPN, Klatt out-performed the Rams’ …

— Preseason – 2003 — In 2002, the Colorado Buffaloes rallied from a 1-2 start to the season to claim a second consecutive Big 12 North Division title. In 2003, the Buffs would have to make a comeback of another sort. The offense would sport a completely new look, and would be depending upon the CU defense to steady the Buffs’ ship through a tough preseason schedule. On offense, only three starters returned. Gone were All-American running back Chris Brown, four-fifths of the starting offensive line, and two of Brown’s backfield …

— October 12th – at Kansas Colorado 53, Kansas 29 — Chris Brown rushed for a career-high 309 yards and scored two touchdowns in leading Colorado to a 53-29 win over Kansas in Lawrence. In becoming only the third player in school history to post a 300-yard rushing game, Brown carried the ball 25 times for a healthy 12.4 yards per carry. Quarterback Robert Hodge continued his steady play as well, hitting on 12-of-19 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Only the Buffs’ porous defense kept the game from …

— O-fer Openers — Colorado’s 2002 opening game against Colorado State has several positive and several negative numbers with which Buff fans had to contend. On the positive side, there was the fact that since 1946, Colorado was 9-0 in opening games against teams which had already played. Before suiting up against the Buffs, the CSU Rams played the Virginia Cavaliers in the Jim Thorpe Classic. The Rams won that game, 35-29, and were close to entering the polls after the win. Still, CSU had played opening games in 1997 …

National and Big 12 Recap Ohio State won its fifth national title at the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, defeating Miami, 31-24, in two overtimes. The 2nd-ranked Buckeyes, 13-point underdogs to the Hurricanes, were led by freshman running back Maurice Clarett. Clarett scored on a five-yard run in Ohio State’s second overtime possession, and when Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete, the 14-0 Buckeyes were the nation’s only undefeated team. In defeating Miami, Ohio State captured its first title – and the Big Ten’s first outright title – in …
