For the third straight game, the Buffs scored on their first possession. A 74-yard pass from Darian Hagan to wideout Jeff Campbell set up a one-yard scoring run by Eric Bieniemy to give Colorado the early lead, 7-0. Still, Colorado State’s opening loss was a 17-14 heartbreaker at Tennessee, and nothing was being conceded by the Rams to their neighbors to the south. — November 19th – Boulder Colorado 56, Kansas State 14 — The Buffs had a great deal to play for in the season finale against Kansas State. Fortunately for CU fans, the Buffs came out smoking against the hapless Wildcats, rolling to a 56-14 win. J.J. Flannigan scored the Buffs= first touchdown on Colorado=s opening possession. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 21-0, Buffs, and the rout was on. Flannigan, playing for the injured Eric Bieniemy, set a new personal best of 151 yards and three touchdowns. …

— November 5th – at Missouri Colorado 45, Missouri 8 — Six different Buffs scored touchdowns as Colorado routed Missouri, 45-8. In the most lopsided Colorado win in the history of the series, the Buffs amassed 479 yards of total offense, including 328 yards on the ground on 72 rushing attempts. Freshman tailback Marcus Reliford came off the bench to lead the Buffs with 114 yards, including a late 15-yard touchdown run. — September 17th – at Iowa Colorado 24, No. 19 Iowa 21 — In pulling off Colorado=s first road win over a ranked team in CU’s seven seasons under Bill McCartney, the Buffs gave notice of their potential, upsetting Iowa, 24-21. Quarterback Sal Aunese plunged in from a yard out with 1:55 remaining to cap an 85-yard drive to give the Buffs the win. — November 21st – at Kansas State Colorado 41, Kansas State 0 — An estimated crowd of only 12,500 fans bothered to attend the final game of the Kansas State Wildcats’ 1987 season, with the announced attendance being the smallest gathering to watch a Colorado Buffaloes football game since 1962. — October 31st – at Iowa State Colorado 42, Iowa State 10 — The Cyclones came into the Halloween contest at home against Colorado with a 2-5 record, but with wins in two of its last three games. While Colorado was hanging in against Oklahoma the previous Saturday, Iowa State was registering its first conference win of the year in outscoring hapless Kansas, 42-28. — November 8th – Boulder Colorado 17, Kansas 10 — In a reverse from the Oklahoma State game the week before, Colorado played well early, then hung on late to post a 17-10 win over Kansas. Rolling to a 17-0 second quarter lead, the Buffs scored on a one yard run by junior halfback Mike Marquez, a 24-yard field goal by Dave DeLine, and a 34-yard reverse by freshman split end Jeff Campbell. The latter score was a reprise of the two reverses Campbell ran so successfully in the Nebraska game. …
