A crowd of 65,153 was on hand in the Los Angeles Coliseum to witness a defensive struggle between two offenses which could move the football but could not capitalize on opportunities. — Preseason – 2000 — Looking forward to the 2000 Colorado football season, the proverbial glass could be seen as either being half empty or half full. On the positive side, the Buffs had played inspired football the second half of the 1999 season, a 7-5 campaign. — Recruiting 101 — Signing day, 2000, brought with it more than the usual buzz to Boulder, Colorado. After the 1999 recruiting class imploded due to the uncertainty of a coaching change, head coach Gary Barnett could not afford to have a second consecutive mediocre recruiting crop. — A Good Loss While the Buffs and their fans were still mourning the lost opportunity of the final moments of the Nebraska game, some good did come from the loss. Nebraska had come into the game against Colorado ranked third in the Bowl Championship Series standings, behind only undefeated Florida State and Virginia Tech. The Baylor Bears, under first year head coach, Kevin Steele, were 1-8 on the year. — October 30th – Boulder Colorado 38, No. 24 Oklahoma 24 — Mike Moschetti, showing no ill effects from a concussion which had sidelined him a week earlier, threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as Colorado upended 24th-ranked Oklahoma, 38-24. Moschetti completed 22-of-31 attempts for 382 yards, including scoring passes of 49 and 88 yards to junior wide receiver Javon Green, on his way to being named the Big 12 Offensive Player-of-the-Week. — October 9th – Boulder Colorado 46, Missouri 39 (OT) — It took four long hours, but Ben Kelly finally put an end to what he had started. Colorado’s all-everything cornerback/kick returner opened the Missouri game with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. In overtime, after a game which was a roller coaster of emotion, Kelly intercepted a pass by Missouri quarterback Kirk Farmer to preserve a 46-39 overtime win for the Buffs.
