Preseason – 1999 For Colorado to be successful in 1999, a number of players would have to rise above their 1998 performances. Mike Moschetti would return at quarterback, and was primed to have a banner year. Including the Aloha Bowl, Moschetti had 2,334 yards passing in 1998, with 19 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Kansas – The Clock Strikes Midnight for Cinderella

— October 24th – at Kansas Kansas 33, No. 17 Colorado 17 — After committing only two penalties against Texas Tech, the Colorado Buffaloes resorted to familiar form for the 1998 season, committing 12 penalties against Kansas. The penalties, along with four turnovers and still more injuries (including key injuries to running back Marlon Barnes and quarterback Mike Moschetti), helped the Kansas Jayhawks upset 17th-ranked Colorado in Lawrence, 33-17. While Kansas State was predicted to face Colorado as an undefeated team, the same could not have been said for Texas Tech before the start of the 1998 season. — September 12th – Boulder No. 16 Colorado 29, Fresno State 21 — Colorado quarterback Mike Moschetti, playing before the home fans for the first time, connected with sophomore wide receiver Javon Green for a 25-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter on what would prove to be the winning score as the No. 16 Buffs held off the Fresno State State Bulldogs, 29-21.
