  — September 19th – Boulder           No. 15 Colorado 25, Utah State 6 — If Colorado’s 29-21 win over Fresno State the week before was a “wake up call”, then the Buffs’ 25-6 victory over Utah State was an indication that the team had apparently hit the snooze button. Penalties and injuries marred an otherwise excellent defensive performance as the Buffs raised their season record to 3-0 with a 25-6 victory over Utah State. Mike Moschetti, slowed by torn cartilage in his rib cage suffered in the Fresno State game, …

—  October 8th – at Missouri          No. 9 Colorado 6, Missouri 0 — After an idle Saturday which saw the Buffs rise to a No. 9 national ranking in the polls, the Colorado Buffaloes prepared to do battle against Missouri on a Thursday night game.  For the 1992 season, the Big Eight had agreed with ESPN to play a number of conference games on Thursday nights.  The Colorado/Missouri game promised national exposure as the only game to be played that day, and the contests provided extra dollars for the conference coffers. …

— October 13th – Boulder           Colorado 23, Iowa State 21 — Only 36,762 came out for Colorado’s Homecoming game against Iowa State. Who could blame the fans for their apathy? The game started as ominously for …

— September 24th – Boulder           Colorado 38, Oregon State 14 — Colorado was able to look towards another struggling opponent for the third week in a row as the Oregon State Beavers came to Boulder. Oregon State had posted a record of 1-9-1 in 1982, and had won only one of three starts in 1983. If the Buffs were to put together back-to-back wins for the first time since 1979, this would be their best chance. The woeful Oregon State football program had not put together more than three wins …

— September 12th – Boulder           Colorado 45, Texas Tech 27 — As if the 1980 season was just a bad dream, Colorado woke up and began the 1981 season in fine fashion, with a 45-27 rout of Texas Tech. Granted, Texas Tech was only 5-6 in 1980. Granted, Texas Tech was not a threat to win the Southwest Conference in 1981. But a win was a win. Sophomore quarterback Randy Essington passed for 345 yards, breaking the school record of 278 yards held by Jeff Knapple (1977 v. Kent State). …
