Colorado 27, CSU 24 – OT

//posted 9.20.2015

Buff kicker Diego Gonzalez, who had missed a 48-yarder a few minutes earlier which would have won the game in regulation, got a shot at redemption in overtime. The 32-yarder in the extra period was perfect, giving Colorado an unlikely come-from-behind 27-24 overtime win over Colorado State in the Rocky Mountain Showdown.

The Buffs spotted the Rams a 14-0 first quarter lead, and were out-gained 500 yards to 345 on the game, but were able to stay in the game with decent offense and timely plays on defense. Sefo Liufau hit on 15-of-28 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns, while linebacker Ken Olugbode (a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown) and safety Tedric Thompson (a blocked field goal in overtime) were the defensive heroes.

Colorado 48, UMass 14

//posted 9.12.2015

Colorado rushed for 390 yards, dominating the final three quarters in pulling away from Massachusetts for a 48-14 victory. Michael Adkins rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown, with Christian Powell making the most of his eight carries, collecting 105 yards (a 13.1 yard average) and two scores, as the Buffs finished with a pair of 100-yard rushers for the first time in a game since 2010.

“I almost don’t know what to say it’s been so long (since a win),” said third-year CU coach Mike MacIntyre, whose team had lost nine consecutive games before Saturday.

MacIntyre’s quarterback, Sefo Liufau, did know what to say. “We had a chip on our shoulder and finally came out and played like we can,” said Liufau, who went 15-for-24 for 168 yards and a touchdown. “Our main objective was to get a win . . . we did and we’re excited.”

No. 2 Oregon 44, Colorado 10

//posted 11.22.2014

No. 2 Oregon methodically took care of business against out-manned Colorado, posting almost 600 yards of total offense in posting a 44-10 victory. Heisman hopeful Marcus Mariota threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns, adding 73 yards and another touchdown rushing, as the Ducks built up a 30-3 halftime lead before coasting in the second half.

Colorado was stymied on offense, gaining only 226 yards of total offense. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Gehrke made his first career start, and was never able to generate any consistency. Gehrke went 9-for-18 for 64 yards before being replaced in the third quarter by Sefo Liufau. The Buffs’ only touchdown of the game, a five yard touchdown pass from Liufau to freshman wide receiver Donovan Lee, came late in the third quarter when the game was already well in hand for the 10-1 Ducks.
